A common mistake athletes make is the immediate attempt to forcefully "massage out" the cramp or aggressively stretch through the pain:

Harsh mechanical irritation often triggers a protective reflex (myotatic reflex), causing the muscle to contract even tighter. Passive stretching might mechanically separate the muscle attachments, but it does not address the neurological hyper-irritation of the motor neurons that caused the cramp in the first place.

Application methodology: Where and how to place electrodes after a cramp
Correct electrode placement is crucial for the result:
Never stick an electrode directly into the center of the most painful trigger point, especially if the muscle is still locked in a cramp state.
Place the electrodes at the origin and insertion of the muscle / muscle group according to the diagram on the Compex display, in the Compex Coach app, or in the paper user manual.
Intensity settings: During recovery and relaxation programs, look for visible, rhythmic muscle twitches. The muscle must not tense into a cramp or cause pain. Higher intensity does not mean better results – the goal is comfortable, mechanical pumping.
Comprehensive first-aid protocol after finishing in hot conditions
Hydration and electrolytes: Immediately replenish fluids containing sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Without restoring ionic balance inside the cells, the muscle will have a tendency to seize up repeatedly.
